5 Reasons New Entrepreneurs Don't Feel Successful

business entrepreneurship mindset Oct 30, 2019
1. You exaggerate everyone else's success.

Solution: Take people off the pedestal and realize that they all started off just like you. Because they have it - YOU can too! Instead of perpetuating the story that you're "not good enough" or, "they have more followers" or whatever it is, find the successful people that resonate with you and model their success. The only difference between them and you is their daily habits & actions and the fact that they started earlier.

Something else to keep in mind: we all define success differently. Get clear on what it means to you.

2. You live in the social media highlight reel.

Solution: Be aware of your bubble of reality. This is especially true for those who work online! Just because we don't typically see other people's challenges, struggles and bad days, it doesn't mean they don't have them too.

Everything you like and want is amplified by the algorithm & sent to you en masse, so be aware of that and remember to take a break to just be.

3. You take your natural strength for granted. You focus on what you don't have instead of what you DO.

Solution: Practice gratitude. Be grateful for those things that make you unique and the things that come easily to you. It might even be helpful to write out a list of the qualities you like most about yourself. Give yourself credit where it's due and for heavens sake, celebrate your wins!

4. You're lacking support and feel like you're isolated, or that your problems are unique to you.

Solution: Find your tribe. Join a mastermind. Network with people in the same space as you! Events are a great way to do this, but we're fortunate enough to live in a world where we don't have to be in the same time zone to talk face-to-face with somebody. There are so many ways to connect with others, so don't be afraid to put yourself out there because I guarantee that there is somebody who needs it as much as you.

5. You haven't established a baseline to measure your success.

Solution: Start tracking yourself and rate your progress. Choose 5-10 things that define success for you. For example, going to the gym, meditating, sales, spending time with kids, following up with leads, e-mailing your list, etc. Give each one a score out of 10 for the week and add it all up. Now, simply try to improve your overall score each week.

This is a strategy I learned from Chris Harder's podcast, For the Love of Money, and I think this is awesome because you can see where you're doing well (and celebrate that!), but also what areas need work.

The bottom line: you are in control. We all have moments where we feel like we're not worthy enough, doing enough, successful enough... but you can choose to change the narrative. Just by stepping outside of your comfort zone and trusting in yourself, you are already successful. Own your story, own your journey and take action.
